Anyone can come to a CBB clinic. Our work focuses on individuals experiencing homelessness, but our doors are open to anyone.
Care Beyond the Boulevard
Care That Shows Up
Care Beyond the Boulevard breaks down the barriers that prevent people from getting back on their feet.

Patient-Driven Care
Patients set the pace. The team asks what patients need, where they are, and what they can access. Depending on the patient’s needs, we can apply wound care under a bridge, offer checkups at a clinic, or create a birth certificate for a housing application. We’ll work with a patient until we meet their needs.
How It All Began

A Need Appeared
When our founder Jaynell (KK) Assmann began working with community members experiencing homelessness, she realized community healthcare had to move closer, become more convenient, and start with trust.

Volunteers Stepped In
Before we had paid employees, we had loyal volunteers who gave time, training, supplies, and compassion to vulnerable populations in healthcare.

The Work Expanded
CBB expanded, allowing us to perform street outreach, mental health care, case management, and a variety of other services.

The Mission Remained
We’ve changed a lot, but Care Beyond the Boulevard still provides homeless healthcare in Kansas City without insurance, bills, or judgment.

Why the Work Matters
Homelessness isn’t a government issue. It’s a community issue—a human issue. Hospitals, volunteers, community organizations, sponsors, schools, and partners help CBB build collaborative support systems for vulnerable populations in healthcare.
When people lack transportation, documents, insurance, phones, or trust, care becomes unreachable. But these are our neighbors, and we’re always here to lend our neighbors a helping hand.

Support wouldn’t be possible without our partners.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Patients do not need insurance, identification, a permanent address, or money to receive care. We exist to help patients without access to these materials get the high-quality assistance they deserve.
Care Beyond the Boulevard began while our founder, KK, worked at a food ministry. While she served food, KK kept hearing medical questions from community members who didn’t have access to care.
KK realized how many barriers prevented people from getting the medical assistance they needed. High costs, transportation challenges, complicated paperwork, and past harm can all make people hesitant to meet with a medical professional.
As a nurse, KK decided to address these issues herself. What started as a volunteer program has become an interconnected network of multiple clinics and volunteers that can meet people experiencing homelessness where they are.
You can help by volunteering, donating supplies, sharing the mission, or connecting someone to our services. Support keeps providers in clinics, teams on the street, and Carehouse medical respite ready to support patients in their recovery.
